Fells has announced the addition of Innesto to its portfolio – the brainchild of Sofia Ricasoli, part of the Ricasoli family, which is already included in the importer’s stable of brands.

Sofia Ricasoli is part of the latest generation of the winemaking family; the Ricasoli winery itself dates back to 1141 and is considered the oldest in Italy.

Based in Tuscany, the up-and-coming brand, which sits within the wider family, is a space for Ricasoli to experiment with “curiosity and intention”.

Derived from the Italian word for “graft”, Innesto aims to be both grounded and forward-looking, and launches with two wines that reflect this philosophy.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva intends to capture the essence and precision of its place of origin. Meanwhile, a multi-vintage Toscana IGT is set to showcase a layered liquid shaped by time.

On the partnership with Fells, Ricasoli said: “It was an easy decision to partner with Fells for the launch of Innesto in the UK.”

“My family’s work with them over the years has given me an understanding of how deeply they care about family wineries and premium wineries with a strong sense of place and identity – something that resonates deeply with the spirit of Innesto.”

Euan Mackay, MD at Fells, added: “We’re overjoyed that Sofia has trusted us with her new creation”.

“It’s no small measure of our closeness with the Ricasoli family, and with Sofia in particular – and we don’t take it for granted. Innesto is a true celebration of the past, present and future of Tuscan winemaking.”

The wines will be available with Fells from 22 April and will not be distributed by anyone else in the UK.
