Majestic has said that Christmas 2025 was the best trading performance in its 45-year history.
According to the retailer, sales rose for the 10th consecutive year during both Black Friday and December. Within this, 23 December was the biggest trading day in its history.
In the five weeks to 29 December, the store saw a 0.9% increase in total sales, despite the general retail alcohol market shrinking by 4.1% in December, according to Kantar.
Likewise, the number of shoppers increased, as the retailer served 10.9% more customers compared to the same period last year.
Breaking it down by drink type, sales of fine wine rose by 4.8% year-on-year in the same period. French wines increased by 4% and the Champagne and sparkling category rose by 2.6%.
At the same time, sales of rosé grew by 5%, cementing it as a year-round drink. Meanwhile, English wine jumped by a whopping 27%.
The retailer’s off-the-beaten-track regions, including Germany, Greece, Austria and Hungary, also grew by 14%.
In its on-trade arm, Majestic supplied an additional 200 new gastropubs, bars, restaurants and hospitality venues compared to last Christmas.
Majestic CEO John Colley said: “Majestic’s excellent Christmas performance capped off another stellar year of transformation and strategic progress. Following our purchase of the leading wines and spirits distributor Enotria and the creation of the Majestic Wine Group, we have also invested heavily in opening three new Vagabond bars, including the UK’s largest Urban Winery, as well as five new Majestic stores.”
