MDCV UK, the business behind Kent’s Silverhand Estate, has achieved B Corp status with an impact assessment score of 85.1.
The UK wine producer – which also owns a slew of English wine estates including Sedlescombe, London Clay and Harlot – said that the achievement marks a significant milestone for the business.
It continued that sustainability has been integral to MDCV UK since the creation of Silverhand Estate in 2023, as well as across its other producers.
Speaking about Silverhand Estate specifically, the company said that the accreditation highlights a series of achievements including its approach to carbon, management, farming and biodiversity.
Notably, it said that the estate’s 2024 carbon assessment confirmed that the producer was carbon negative, without the need for carbon offsetting.
The estate also farms using organic and regenerative methods, with no chemical methods. Additionally, more than 15 species of cover crops are planted throughout the vineyard to improve soil health, moisture retention and biodiversity.
Considering human sustainability, MDCV said that since 2022, the business has created 124 new jobs across its operations, now employing 141 full-time members and 24 part-time members.
It added that continued investment in employee wellbeing, professional development and career progression remains an essential part of its business model.
Gary Smith, CEO of MDCV, said: “We are delighted to have achieved B Corp certification. It is hugely important to us as a business.
“Not only does it hold us accountable to our core values such as caring for our land, supporting our people and making a positive contribution to the communities around us, it also provides a framework that will help us keep improving as we grow.”
