Co-op wine buyer Sarah Benson has become a master of wine, making her the first at the Co-op.
The Institute of Masters of Wine announced four new MWs last week, with Benson joining Argentina specialist Amanda Barnes as well as Jit Hang Jackie Ang in Singapore and Kathleen Van den Berghe in Belgium.
Benson transitioned from a career in translation to wine after completing WSET courses. At the Co-op, she sources and blends wines from France, Spain, South America and Greece. The convenience retailer said Benson champions sustainability and led on the Co-op’s light-weighting programme. She also mentors future wine professionals.
There are now 425 MWs in 30 countries.
Earlier this year, the Co-op won Convenience Chain of the Year at the Drinks Retailing Awards.
