Majestic has teamed up with Picpoul de Pinet brand Ormarine to launch National Picpoul Day, which will take place on July 11.
As part of the celebration, Ormarine has been named the white wine partner of Kew the Music festival, held in south west London from July 8–13.
On Picpoul Day itself, Majestic will run free in-store tastings of Ormarine’s Villemarin and Cuvée Estela, aged on fine lees. Tastings will be available across all 214 stores.
In the on-trade, guests at Cut and Craft restaurants – supplied by Majestic – will be offered a free glass of Ormarine Plo Isabelle or Sea Pearl Picpoul.
Matthew Fowkes, head of buying at Majestic, commented: “Picpoul has always been popular with our customers, and we’ve worked with our partner, Ormarine, for a number of years. We’re delighted to be launching the first Majestic & Ormarine Picpoul Day this summer to showcase the very best of the region.”
At the same time, Majestic has announced it will open a new store in Thame as part of its brick-and-mortar expansion.
The store is 1,680 sq ft and located on the local high street. The site was previously occupied by Newitt’s of Thame, a butcher’s shop, and Majestic has said it will retain features such as the black and white tiled flooring, wooden ceiling beams and tiled walls with original murals.
An extension will also be built at the rear of the store to house Majestic’s full selection of 1,200 wines, beers and spirits.
On the Thame opening, Majestic CEO, John Colley said: “Thame is a location we’ve been targeting for some time as part of our expansion plans, so we are delighted to be bringing our award-winning wines and expertise to the town. We know there are hundreds of discerning wine lovers in the local community – many of whom already shop with us in Oxford, Aylesbury or online.”
