The producer of a new drink made from pure grain spirit infused with pineapple, ginger, lemon, scotch bonnet chillies and other natural ingredients is ready to expand the brand’s reach across the UK.

Aloha 65 was created by Stephen Thorp, a British ex-pat bar owner and spirit enthusiast. The drink, described as: “fun, surf and sea inspired”, is the first product from Thorp’s start-up company, Big Wave Brands. It is named Aloha 65 because it took 65 recipes to get to the one that was eventually chosen and then bottled.

Seven distillates are blended together to create the new spirit and it is lower in alcohol than many others at 27% abv. It can be used as a “very distinctive and different heart” for classic cocktails such as the Daiquiri, Margarita or Mojito, and it is described as having fresh fruit notes with a hint of ginger and chilli, alongside herbaceous tones.

The drink was created in the US and now has its new home in the UK. It has already had a soft launch across the South West of England – particularly focusing on coastal towns and cities – and the team is now ready to introduce it to London and other parts of the UK.

Aloha 65 is a supporter of The Plastic Oceans Foundation and it has pledged to contribute 5% of its profits to support their mission of stopping plastic reaching the oceans. The brand is natural, vegan and, according to the producer, it even makes a hot sauce with the ingredients left over from the infusion process.
