Drinks United has launched an equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) hub.
The hub offers a central platform for practical tools, policies, training and signposting. It incorporates inclusive recruitment guides and a safeguarding framework, alongside resources to address harassment, bias and exclusion.
In tandem with the EDI hub, Drinks United is also launching two new support services.
The Safer Space Support Bot offers a confidential and anonymous first step for anyone experiencing or witnessing harassment in the trade. It provides information on rights and reporting options.
Meanwhile, in partnership with The Drinks Trust, the initiative has also introduced a support line for those who need to discuss safeguarding or sexual harassment.
Michelle Brampton, CEO of WSET and Drinks United board member, said: “By launching this hub, our aim is to provide the drinks industry with resources to learn from and use, and individuals with support when they need it. Through our collaboration with The Drinks Trust, the helpline now extends that support beyond resources, offering real-time, confidential help.”
Ruth Sparkes, co-founder of Safer Space, said: “70% of women in the whisky industry and 37% of women working in the wine industry have experienced harassment at work. Those numbers are unacceptable in any sector. Working with Drinks United, we’ve created a bespoke, AI driven chatbot, that we hope will support change in the industry.”
Nicky Burston, CEO of The Drinks Trust and Drinks United board member, added: “Creating a more inclusive, supportive and equitable industry is central to the future of the drinks sector. By partnering on this initiative, we are ensuring that businesses and individuals not only have access to vital EDI resources, but also real-time support through our helpline and chatbot.”
