A new independent whisky bottler has launched in Edinburgh.

Whisky Craft has released its debut collection – the Inaugral Season – which is a trio of single cask Scotch whiskies, each of which is from a different region.

The first whisky in the series is Jura 26. The liquid from the Isle of Jura has been matured for 36 years and is soft, savoury and gently spiced. It is drawn from a single Octave cask and only 66 bottles exist.

The second in the collection is Mortlach 12, a Speyside single malt drawn from a single Octave and bottled at cask strength. 64 bottles are available.

Finally, the last in the Inaugral Season is Caol Ila 9. The liquid is a cask strength Islay whisky with “coastal vibrancy and smoky intensity”. 152 bottles were drawn from a single hogshead.

The new brand said it hopes to take customers on a journey through Scotland’s finest whiskies, flavours, places and storytelling.

On the launch, founder Sonny Charles said: “Whisky Craft was born from my own desire to create something that reflects both the beauty of Scotland and also celebrates the craftmanship behind the liquid.

“These are whiskies chosen for their character and story. Each one marks the beginning of what we hope is a long and meaningful journey with whisky fans around the world.”

On the growing popularity of independent bottlers, Charles told Drinks Retailing: “Consumers are drawn to independent bottlers as each release is unique. Two brands can bottle whisky from the same distillery with similar age statements, but the final liquid can differ dramatically depending on the cask and finish. Unlike mass-produced blends, a single cask bottling is finite, once it’s gone, it’s gone. That uniqueness and originality are what makes the releases desirable.”
