California-based fine wine retailer and importer Westgarth Wines has announced its official expansion into the European market with the opening of a London branch.
At the same time, Steve Weids has been appointed director of sales, bringing more than three decades of experience in the fine wine sector.
Weids joins from his most recent role as sales director at Fine+Rare, having previously served as head of Europe at Zachys Wine Auctions.
Westgarth said the expansion into Europe represents a significant step in its ambition to grow its presence among European private clients.
On his appointment, Weids said: “I am thrilled to join Westgarth at such a transformative moment. Today’s collectors want an authentic connection to the producers and the stories behind the labels. We are building something that offers that level of intimacy combined with the institutional rigour Westgarth is known for.”
Meanwhile, Alexander Westgarth, CEO of Westgarth Wines, added: “The UK remains the global heartbeat of the fine wine trade. By launching Westgarth Wines in Europe and bringing a leader of Steve’s calibre on board, we want to redefine the private client experience.”
