Waitrose has launched a top tier range of own-label wine, cider and spirits called No. 1.

Twenty-one wines previously sold under the In Partnership range have been rebranded to follow the new design, while six newcomers have been added.

The new wines include Cederberg Private Cellar Syrah, Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc, an Argentinian Malbec, a Bordeaux, a red and a white Burgundy, and also a crusted port.

Pierpaolo Petrassi MW, head of wine buying at Waitrose, said: “The newly launched No.1 wine range allows us to introduce our customers to some of the very best classic wines and standout regions around the world.

“Our award-winning team of buyers have worked with some of the world’s best producers to ensure authenticity; working with winemakers to craft some truly outstanding wines.

“We want this range to be an indulgence for our customers, whether that be a special occasion, dinner party or a weekend treat.”

The Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc was made exclusively for the retailer in the Awatere Valley, while the Symington Family produced the crusted port.

The Côte de Beaune and Pouilly Vinzelles were produced exclusively by the fourth generation of winemakers at Maison Joseph Drouhin.

Waitrose’s English vintage cider and perry also fall into the range, along with a blended Scotch, a VSOP Cognac and a VSOP Armagnac.
