Two of the five nominees for a newly launched Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) award for outstanding Diploma graduates come from the UK wine trade. (the website run by Jancis Robinson MW), has partnered with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) to launch the new WSET Outstanding Alumni Award, an annual accolade aimed at celebrating a WSET Diploma graduate who is notably contributing to the industry.

The nominees for this award for 2016 include two UK Diploma graduates: Joe Fattorini and Isabelle Legeron MW.

Fattorini has been writing about wine for 14 years and he has worked closely with Conviviality and prior to that, Bibendum, as its director of sales. More recently he has hosted ITV’s ‘The Wine Show’.

Legeron is an advocate of natural wine and founder of RAW wine, the UK’s largest artisan wine fair, which has now expanded into Berlin and New York. She has consulted for various top-end restaurants and has hosted her own TV shows. She has also founded a wine school in London, as well as the private members wine club, Bacchanalia.

Other nominees include Yang Lu (Hong Kong), a sommelier, wine educator and wine columnist; Kenichi Ohashi MW (Japan), who has written a book on natural wine and is a sake expert; and Maureen Downey (USA), who is an expert on fine and rare wine, as well as an authority on counterfeit wine and wine fraud.

The nominees have been chosen by the WSET International Alumni Advisory Board and Jancis Robinson herself.
