Tipples of Manchester is running a competition through September to give away a full set of rare bourbons.

The specialist spirits retailer has been running a monthly prize giveaway for some time and says this is popular with its customers. Once a month its customers can buy a bottle of entry-level spirit for a ticket in a draw to win something super premium.

This September it is running “a huge giveaway competition, the scale of which we have never seen before in the retail alcohol world”, according to Greg Adams, one of the shop’s owners.

The prize this month will be a full set of Pappy Van Winkle bourbons, including Old Rip Van Winkle 10-year-old; 12-year-old, 20-year-old and a 23-year old.

Adams says: “These are some of the most sought after and collectable bourbons on the market and a full set can go for upwards of £5,000 on auction sites.”

Customers who want to be in with a chance of winning just have to buy a bottle of Eagle Rare, in store or online, and then the retailer will draw the winning entry live on its Facebook page at 7pm on October 1. A 70cl bottle of Eagle Rare is priced at £40.

Adams says: “We are a small independent trying to keep our heads above water in these difficult times and we don’t have the budget to spend on marketing and advertising at the moment. Businesses are trying to do everything they can to remain relevant and to survive.

“We have decided to get creative in our response and have come up with an idea that has worked fairly well for us so far.”
