Think Brands has launched a grapefruit-based drink, which can be used in a range of cocktails.

The 15% abv Pampelle (rrp: £20 for 70cl) has bittersweet flavours of organic ruby red grapefruit from Corsica, blended together with botanicals to create a versatile aperitif.

The drink is naturally low in sugar and, according to the producer, it works in a range of cocktails including a simple Spritz or a French twist or a Negroni.

The deep red-coloured Pampelle is made from organic ruby red grapefruits, which create its distinctive bittersweet flavour. Once harvested the ripe fruit is taken to a distillery on the banks of the River Charente in the town of Cognac in South West France, where the liquid is handcrafted in a three-part process.

To enhance the natural aromas, Pampelle’s master distiller sources citrus peel and botanicals from around the world, including yuzu from Japan, cedrat from France and bitter orange bigarade from Haiti. The botanicals are distilled before they are infused into the ruby red batches and blended with cinchona tree bark quinine, gentian bitters and a signature grape eau de vie. The grapefruits and then pressed and reduced until they become a deep, velvety red.

Founder, Patrick Borg, said: “Inspired by my Mediterranean heritage and love for all things French, I am delighted to announce the global launch of Pampelle Aperitif Francais to the world, and thrilled that it is now available through Mangrove in the UK.”

Nick Gillett, managing director of Mangrove, said: “Pampelle is a fantastic addition to Mangrove’s liqueur portfolio. The distinctive packaging is inviting, and the clarity of flavour is testament to the craftsmanship. It makes the perfect base for cocktails and we anticipate it becoming the go-to drink this summer.”
