The new position of head of fine wine at The Wine Society has been filled by Alex Turnbull, who is set to start in January 2026.

Entering the role with over a decade of experience in fine wine, Turnbull began his career at WoodWinters before joining Justerini & Brooks in 2014, where he worked as a private client account manager for seven years. He then moved to Jeroboams in 2021, where he led the private sales team before taking over the online division.

On his new position at The Wine Society, Turnbull said: “I can’t wait to join what is clearly one of the most dynamic and forward-looking wine companies in the marketplace today.”

Despite the ongoing worries about the fine wine market, he added: “Fine wine is as popular as ever; it’s just how people buy and engage with it that has evolved. I’m excited to enhance the fine wine offering for Society members and make it more accessible to younger collectors just starting their wine journey.”

Pierre Mansour, director of wine at The Wine Society, added: “We’re really excited to welcome Alex to the team. With over a decade of senior sales experience in the fine wine sector, Alex combines commercial expertise with a genuine passion for fine wine and a strong alignment with The Wine Society’s values. I’m confident he will make an excellent addition to the team.”

The creation of the new position marks the first time fine wine has become a central pillar of The Wine Society’s long-term strategy. As part of this, Turnbull will lead the development and delivery of the Society’s new Specialist Fine Wine Service, which is due to launch in 2026.
