The Madeira Wine Institute’s tasting and education event is returning to London this June after a two-year break.

The Toast of Madeira, which will take place at the Portuguese Embassy in Belgrave Square on June 6, offers those in the trade a rare opportunity to taste and compare the various Madeira wine styles, all under one roof.

The event kicks off with a walk around tasting from 2.30pm to 6pm, alongside a one-hour seated masterclass at 2.30pm called “Madeira – the winemaker’s signature”, which is presented by the Institute’s Tasting Director, Rubina Vieira. This masterclass features rare wines from the producers’ own cellars.

The tasting will feature wines from six of the top Madeira producers: Blandy’s Madeira Wine Company, Henriques & Henriques, HMBorges, Justino’s Madeira Wines, Pereira D’Oliveira and Vinhos Barbeito, in an informal “walk around” setting. There will be opportunity to taste, discuss and compare and contrast the various styles of this “well known but little understood wine region, perhaps one of the wine trade’s best kept secrets”, according to the organisers.

Admission to the event is free but tickets are required, and there are limited spaces for the masterclass. To register for tickets (for the walk around tasting and the masterclass) please contact Fiona Campbell: 07836 595131.
