The Gin Society has announced plans to hold a two-day festival in Bolton; the event will be bigger than its previous festivals following the success of last year’s activities.

The festival in Bolton will take place on 26 and 27 May in its Grade II-listed Town Hall. The event will feature 90 gins from around the world, plus Prosecco cocktails and live entertainment.

The Gin Society, which has had success with a host of events across the north of England, is also running an event from March 2 to 4 in Manchester Cathedral, followed by festivals in Buxton, Carlisle, Saddleworth and Southport.

Sales of gin continue to soar in the UK. In the 12-week festive period in 2016 sales rose by 18.3% in the off-trade, which IRI data equates to a total of £136m in retailers’ tills in the run up to Christmas.

Martin Wood, head of strategic insight for retail at IRI, said: “Gin is the spirit of choice right now and we don’t see this changing any time soon.”
