Tesco plans to introduce a selection of premium Old-World wines under its Finest brand.

The range, which it has created in collaboration with world-renowned producers, will be in stores across the country and online from this month.

Tesco said the wines will offer a prestige selection, without the characteristically high prices expected for respected regions such as Margaux and Valpolicella Ripasso.

The wines, which will be priced between £7 and £20, include: Faugeres 2015; Lambrusco DOC NV; Valpolicella Ripasso 2014; St Emilion Grand Cru 2011; Barbera d’Alba 2013; Margaux 2011; Mercurey Rouge ‘Selection Georges’ 2015; Gailac Perle 2016′ Minervois La Liviniere 2015 and Vire Clesse 2015.

Tesco Master of Wine, James Davis, said: “These fantastic new Tescc Finest wines offer customers an opportunity to discover a range of top quality old world wines at exceptional prices.

“By introducing a combination of classic and lesser known styles, and emerging grape varieties and regions, we have added an exciting level of depth and quality to our own label wine range.

“We hope Tesco own label wines will becoe a real destination for wine exploration and discovery for shoppers across the country.”

The new wines are the latest additions to the premium range under the Tesco Finest label, which now totals 96.

In the last year Tesco has seen growth in the premium wine category, with the sales of wines priced at £7 and above up by 7.5%.

Davis MW added: “We are seeing that customers are looking for premium wine to celebrate an occasion or to be an interesting talking point at the dinner table.”

Tesco also plans to introduce four of its most popular Finest wines in 18.7cl bottles.
