The Tesco wine team has bolstered its range with five new 1.5 litre bag-in-box wines launched under its Finest banner.
The retailer said it has experienced strong year-on-year growth in the bag-in-box format and wanted to attract customers that already enjoy its Finest range with “a more convenient style of packaging”.
It sourced wines from France, Italy and South Africa and assured customers the quality would match the wine found in glass bottles in the Finest range.
Laura Jewell MW, wine product development manager, said: “The new 1.5 litre packaging format for Finest is equivalent to 2 bottles, but in lighter, more compact and convenient packaging.
“The boxes will keep the wine fresh for six weeks after opening as well as take up less space in the fridge than two bottles. This is the first time we have used this format; we felt the size was perfect for our Finest brand.”
Tesco product development manager Lucy Clements added: “The Tesco wine team has applied all the skills and learning we have developed throughout our years of bottling wine to create a bespoke, premium 1.5 litre bag-in-box.
“New to the UK market, we have thoroughly checked the quality control to ensure the Finest wine is at its best in this new format. The wines are now ready to be released to our customers and we look forward to hearing their feedback.”
The five wines will be rolled out in store this week and comprise: Picpoul de Pinet at £14.99, Fiano at £14.99, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo for £11.99, Swartland Chenin Blanc at £12.99 and Swartland Shiraz for £13.99.
