South African producer Boland Cellar has set its sights on the UK market, beginning with the Wines of South Africa trade tasting in October.

According to Wine Works Studio, which leads communications for the brand, Boland plans to grow its UK presence by expanding into the on-trade.

Additionally, it said that it would be changing its focus in the off-trade to mid-tier products that fit current consumer demand.

Based in the Paarl region, Boland sources wines from Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Wellington, Paarl, Swartland and the West Coast.

At the trade tasting, it will also introduce a series of new wines, including two Old Vine Chenin Blancs and a Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc from the cool-climate West Coast.

Ross Sleet, Boland Cellar CEO, said: “The UK wine market accounts for 26% of value exports for South Africa and 24% volume.

“It is, undeniably, a leading export market for our wines. But, South Africa in the UK is not an easy picture, we saw the largest drop in volume by country (WSTA market report July 2026) compared with the highest leap in average price over the same time period.

“South Africa needs a solid proposition in the mid-tier and Boland Cellar is well placed to meet that requirement. Smaller volume and higher value can only take the country so far, we need to play in the main commercial space.”
