Sussex-based Rathfinny Wine Estate has launched the first English sparkling wine in 50cl bottles.

Rathfinny Mini Cuvée 2020 50cl is bottle-aged and fermented, and it is a blend of 55% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier.

The producer said the launch follows several years of campaigning to legislate a 50cl bottle. The first batch of the Rathfinny Mini Cuvée will be followed by a further 5,000 bottles from the 2021 vintage, which were bottled in June 2022.

Sarah Driver, Rathfinny co-founder, said: “The Rathfinny Mini provides consumers with more choice – the perfect sized bottle for two people to share, without the need to overindulge. The Rathfinny Mini also appeals to the current consumer climate, with many looking to drink slightly less but better-quality wine – the 50cl bottle allows those wishing to reduce alcohol intake to still enjoy an excellent quality sparkling. We are delighted to be the first English Sparkling to offer this to the market.”

The Mini will be stocked by retailers including Oxford Wine Company, RRP £24.50.
