Quinta do Pôpa from the Douro has joined the Bancroft portfolio.
Acquired by José Ferreira in 2003 in honour of his father’s dream, Quinta do Pôpa harvested its first vintage in 2007 and created its first wines in 2009.
The vineyards are a mix of old vines and younger parcels, planted to classic Douro varieties on schist terraces above the Douro River.
The range is made in stainless steel to emphasise fruit purity and freshness. Within this, the white is led by Verdelho with supporting indigenous varieties, while the reds blend Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.
The estate is also certified sustainable and in conversion to organic viticulture.
Five wines from Quinta do Pôpa will be availible as a part of the Bancroft portfolio from mid-September: Popa Contos Branco 2023, Popa Selection Branco 2023, Popa Amphora Branco 2023, Popa Contos Tinto 2023 and Popa Selection Tinto 2023.
Damian Carrington, managing director of Bancroft Wines, said: “We are very excited to welcome Quinta do Pôpa to our portfolio, an estate that beautifully combines Douro tradition with a fresh, modern spirit. Drawing on old schist terraces and younger parcels that highlight the diversity of the Douro, they produce wines that show a wonderful balance of purity, generosity and finesse.
“Under the leadership of Stéphane and Vanessa, Quinta do Pôpa has become one of the most engaging names in the Douro today, and we are delighted to introduce their wines to our customers in the UK.”
Stéphane and Vanessa Ferreira, co-owners of Quinta do Pôpa, added: “Partnering with Bancroft is an exciting opportunity to share not only our wines, but also our family story and the spirit of the Douro with the UK. We believe Bancroft shares our values of authenticity, passion, and innovation, and together we look forward to inspiring people to dream, create and always celebrate.”
