The Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG appellation has said that it is expecting positive results from its 2025 harvest.
It noted that yields were back to normal this year after a particularly lean 2022, 2023 and 2024.
On the season, the appellation said that 2025 began well. April to May saw slightly higher-than-average rainfall. June was warm, “bringing healthy vegetative growth and no heat stress,” followed by a cool July, allowing strong development of aroma compounds as veraison took place.
August was more changeable, the appellation explained. A heat wave was followed by rainfall, which slowed ripening and led to moderate sugar levels. This will, in turn, lead to wines with moderate alcohol content. Harvesting then took place in September.
Diego Tomasi, director of the Consorzio di Tutela, described the 2025 harvest as a test for growers.
Tomasi said: “When vintages bring these kinds of climatic surprises, slowing maturation, the competence of the grower makes the difference. We are now more likely to determine picking date by analysis of acidity and aromatic precursors than on sugar levels.
“Today we are pleased to have brought to the cellar lots of very good grapes, and only in a few cases average ones, proof of both the complexity of this season and the growers’ readiness to face climatic unpredictability.”
