The House of Piper-Heidsieck will release a cuvee exclusively for select high-end wine merchants and restaurants.

Piper-Heidsieck Essentiel Champagne (rsp: £37.99) is described as “an elegant introduction to the diverse collection of Champagnes” from the producer. The Champagne has its origins in the house expression – the Brut NV – and uses the same base wines, resulting in a Champagne which reinforces the quality of the Brut and the characteristics of the house style.

It has an additional 12 to 18 months of ageing and offers a lower dosage of 5g/l compared to the Brut NV at 9 to 10g/l. The producer said it is “bright, crisp and firm, playing host to well-defined white fruit flavours and an aromatic purity showing notes of citrus, grapes, crisp apple, almond and salinity”.

Piper-Heidsieck recently launched a fresh aesthetic across its range with new packaging, to give the brand a more sophisticated and modern look.

Regis Camus, the producer’s chef de caves, said: “I am proud of this Extra-Brut cuvee, which symbolizes the essence of our Champagnes. This extra-aged and lower dosage wine is the pure expression of Piper-Heidsieck style: a structured, crisp and ardent wine. Wanting to highlight the uniqueness of Essential, we have decided to display additional information on the label such as the disgorgement and cellaring dates to communicate that extra level of detail to an engaged Champagne audience.”
