The second annual People’s Choice Wine Awards aim to discover the wines that consumers across the UK love best and the reasons why.

Janet Harrison of Cracking Wines launched the awards last year and saw wines submitted from Asda, Waitrose, Red Squirrel, Laurent Perrier, Bolney Estate, Raymond Reynolds and more.

The competition focuses on the way consumers search for and buy wine, whether from independent wine merchants, supermarkets or online retailers.

The awards are back and the deadline for submissions is August 31, 2018, while a search for amateur judges is underway on social media.

Award-winning marketing manager Judy Kendrick is supporting Harrison in her efforts to grow the awards’ footprint.

“I have been admiring Janet’s entrepreneurial spirit for some time, and am delighted to be able to help her build the reputation of the People’s Choice Wine Awards,” she said.

Kendrick added that a huge proportion of consumers consult peer reviews before buying products of any kind, while blogs, forums and apps are growing in popularity.

She believes the profile of wine drinkers has changed massively over the last 20 years, yet the way wine is marketed does not always reflect these changes and wine terminology remains bewildering for many people

The People’s Choice Wine Awards aims to tackle these issues head-on with “a modern and innovative approach and an injection of fun”.

The award categories themselves are geared towards triggers for purchase, such as Girls Night In and Boxing Clever  (for the best bag-in-box wines).

The competition has an emphasis on food friendly wines, simple terminology, social media and sustainable and organic production, while the judging panel is designed to reflect a diverse range of consumers.
