Bath-based wine merchant Novel Wines is on track to acquire Croatian Fine Wines by the end of 2023, as owners look to expand wholesale operations and diversify Novel’s portfolio.

Explaining the decision behind the acquisition, Novel Wines founder Ben Franks, who recently stepped down to join the Canned Wine Co as chief commercial officer, said: “We have worked with Croatian Fine Wines for many years and it is very exciting to bring the business under the Novel Wines banner.

“The move will increase our Croatian range dramatically and help to service a growing demand for Mediterranean wines in the UK market.”

Novel Wines’ new managing director, Gary Shaw, hopes the addition of more Croatian wines to the merchant’s portfolio will position Novel as one of the UK’s “most interesting wine merchants, with Croatia offering wines you can’t find anywhere else”.

All Croatian Fine Wines’ stock has been transferred to Novel Wines, with the merchant set to take over management after Christmas.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
