North South Wines will take on the distribution of Coto de Caleruega, produced by Grupo Barón de Ley, from September 2025.

The Ribera del Duero producer will be launched at the Grapest Hits tasting on 22 September in Manchester and 24 September in London.

According to North South Wines, Coto de Caleruega marks the start of a new journey for Grupo Barón de Ley, which is bringing together 370ha of estate-owned vineyards to create a benchmark Ribera del Duero.

The winemaking team is led by technical director Lluis Laso and head of viticulture Javier Vicente, who together have over 20 years of experience in the region and surrounding areas.

Production is focused on the Coto de Caleruega Roble, launching with the 2024 vintage. The Tinto Fino is blended with a small percentage of Merlot, fermented in stainless steel, and aged for at least three months in 225l oak barrels.

The vineyards are in the Caleruega municipality, situated at the north-eastern limit of the Ribera del Duero DO, an area known for high altitudes, hot dry summers and cold winters.

Kim Wilson, founder and MD of North South Wines, said: “We are delighted to represent Coto de Caleruega on the UK market. This is a truly exciting and innovative project backed by the experienced team at Grupo Barón de Ley. It’s the perfect addition to the North South Wines portfolio, allowing us to strengthen our Spanish range and offer our customers benchmark Ribera del Duero wines of exceptional quality.”

Sergio Soriano from Grupo Baron de Ley, added: “Coto de Caleruega represents one of the most exciting projects in the history of both Grupo Barón de Ley and the DO Ribera del Duero. With our own vineyards at some of the highest altitudes in Ribera del Duero, a highly experienced technical team and a state-of-the-art winery under construction, we are committed to producing wines of authenticity and excellence.”
