North South Wines has added to its low and no alcohol portfolio with La Gioiosa 0.0%, an alcohol-free sparkling wine.

The wine, made from 100% Glera grapes, is made using a process that is different from de-alcoholised wine. Winemaker Stefano Gava uses whole grapes which are put into a pneumatic press for soft pressing.

The resulting must is placed into temperature-controlled tanks at 0%, where it remains until it is used for the production of 0% sparkling. The end result is a sparkling alternative, which the producer said “retains the lovely white flower and golden apple aromas”, but which is also lower in calories than most zero alcohol offerings.

Kim Wilson, managing director at North South Wines, said: “The launch of La Gioisa 0.0% is very timely. We expect consumers to reassess their way of life post-lockdown and wellness will be a key priority. Thanks to our experience with the successful Belle & Co and Black Tower brands, we know the 0.0% market well and we believe there are cross references with the La Gioiosa shopper, who might want to limit their Prosecco intake but still have a rewarding La Gioiosa experience.”

La Gioiosa 0.0% (rrp: £6) will initially be available online via Amazon and online retailers DryDrinker, Good Stuff Drinks, Vino Fine and Wisebartender. It will then launch into Ocado in September.
