The East London-based Nirvana Brewery has announced that it has achieved certified B Corporation status.
Founded in 2016, the brewery has become known for its exclusive focus on low & no alcohol beers, all of which are under 0.5% abv.
Now, almost a decade after opening, the company has received B Corp certification, making official an ethos that the brewer said has always run through the business.
On its environmental practices, Nirvana said that most of its beers are brewed by partners using sustainable brewing practices, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint of each can.
This includes sourcing ingredients as close as possible to the production site, with most beers made using grains grown in the local area and drawing on nearby water sources. 50% of brewing is also powered by an on-site wind turbine.
As well as environmental sustainability, Nirvana also focuses on human sustainability by investing in team wellbeing, which this year included enhanced parental leave.
The brewery also maintains regular charitable giving programmes, including donations to the National Park City Foundation.
Paul Walsh, CEO of Nirvana, commented: “Our new B Corp status is formalising much of how we have always done business, but it’s also an official commitment to doing even more.
“For us, brewing great alcohol-free beer and running an ethical business have always gone hand in hand – it’s part of who we are, not a separate initiative. B Corp certification gives that identity an official stamp and pushes us to keep raising the bar.”
