Nirvana Brewery has appointed Paul Thomas Walsh as its first-ever CEO, marking the start of a series of ambitious future plans.

Best known for its production of low & no alcohol beers, Nirvana Brewery announced the news at the same time as it launched a fundraiser, through which it seeks upwards of £1m.

The brewery said the expansion reflects a thriving low & no beer market, with figures from NIQ showing that retail sales of the category rose to 13.3 million litres in 2025. It also indicates the success of the brewery, which saw sales rise by 59% last year.

Walsh, who comes from a background in investment banking and fintech, had already been working in an advisory role at Nirvana.

Now, however, he is set to take on a more hands-on position, which includes plans to secure further investment for the brewer.

According to Nirvana, the funds raised are set to cover a series of key elements, including new and expanded sales and accounts teams, alongside product investment and brand-building activities.

Walsh said: “Ten years on from being the first dedicated low & no brewery, we’re determined to grow significantly when the sector is one of very few bright lights in brewing. And, given our own sales success, this is a perfect time to ride that momentum.”

Becky Taylor-Kean, founder of Nirvana, added: “Paul’s expertise and the funds raised will enable us to realise our ambition of becoming the UK’s number one alcohol-free craft beer.”
