Chile looking to reclassify DOs
Wines of Chile is considering revamping its appellation system so that vineyards are classified based on how close they are to the sea or
mountains, as well as whereabouts they are in the country.
The body has launched a consultation process - currently "in
embryonic stages" -
to look into possible changes, according to Wines of Chile's
Michael Cox.
"There is a desire
to
get some DOs reclassified or extended," he said . "They would get an extra classification to reflect coastal, central and Andean influences, and
east-west influences. Vineyards near the Andes can have a very different style to those
on the coast and they can all be the same appellation."
