Smurfit Kappa boxes clever
Packaging manufacturer Smurfit Kappa has created a corrugated cardboard mail-order wine pack. The company
says it can be dropped from
height without the bottle inside breaking. The new pack - called Protektapak - aims to provide an environmentally-friendly alternative to polystyrene. Sales director Paul Cahill said: "As internet shopping increases, this provides a much-needed solution which will enable companies to use normal post and should save enormously on courier costs."

Inbev UK has had its knuckles rapped by the Advertising Standards Authority after Channel
4 mistakenly broadcast an ad for Stella Artois after a children's film. The ASA upheld a complaint made by a single viewer after the ad was shown immediately after the film Dunston Checks In. Channel
4 accepted responsibility for the error.
No stopping the Mexican wave
Mexican lager Corona Extra has grown its sales by 900% over the past six years. Its 12-pack, launched last year, has added £4 million to its retail value. The brand announced the sales figures at the world final of its international DJ competition Movida Corona, in Vienna. Chris Lewis, marketing director at the brand's UK supplier Wells & Young's, said: "The figures speak for themselves as, even in a highly competitive market, Corona Extra is still achieving strong growth when many brands are seeing flat or declining sales."
Co-op fires up festive ports
The Co-op has introduced four new port products into its own-brand range in time for Christmas. The new products, a 10 Year Old Tawny (£10.99), LBV (£8.49), Special Reserve (£7.49) and Ruby (£5.99), are all made by the Fladgate Partnership - owner of Taylor's and Fonseca. A spokeswoman said: "Port is becoming more and more popular in the UK, and the Co-operative's new products are a great choice for
Christmas . These
ports are all perfect to serve at the end of any festive dinner."
GWW revamps website
Great Western Wine has revamped its website to include more information about the wines on its list and the people who make them, as well as advice on wine styles and grape varieties, tasting notes and recommendations from wine writers and the GWW team. This month the company is offering anyone who registers with the site - greatwesternwine.co.uk - the chance to win a trip to Champagne.
Codorníu's Spanish Quarter
The Spanish Quarter is a new wine brand from Grupo Codorníu - a duo of blends which combine native Spanish grapes with international varietals. The white is a Chardonnay/Albariño and the red a Cabernet Sauvignon/Tempranillo. Both will retail for £7.99 in the UK.
