Carmenère joins Chile’s Yali range
Chile’s Viña Ventisquero has added Three Lagoons Carmenère 2008 to its Yali range.
Three Lagoons is Yali’s top-tier brand, named after a string of lakes in the state-protected El Yali wetland zone, close to Ventisquero’s winery. It will initially be exclusive to Sainsbury’s.
Sales director Américo Hernández said that, as Chile’s signature grape, it was fitting for the Carmenère to be first in the range to gain a major listing. “Yali is known for flying the green flag, but it’s also proud of its provenance,” said Hernández. ?“As you would expect from a good Chilean Carmenère, this wine is fresh and fruity, with notes of blackberries and black pepper.”?The wine, a blend of 85% Carmenère and 15% Syrah, was sourced from a single vineyard planted on loam and clay soils in Trinidad, in the coastal Maipo Valley. It has an rrp of £9.99.
