'66% miss half a day through a hangover' – Drinkaware
Two-thirds of young adults spend half a day getting over a hangover, according to new research from alcohol awareness charity Drinkaware.
On average, hangovers occur more than twice a month and one in 10 18 to 24-year-olds spend a whole day suffering the ill effects of a night before, the research claims.
Some 29 have missed studying through a hangover, and more than one in five say a hangover has caused them to miss a session at the gym.
Hollyoaks stars Claire Cooper and Gemma Merna have been recruited by the charity to front a campaign to encourage young people to “get watered not slaughtered”, by drinking water or soft drinks between alcoholic drinks on a night out.
The campaign is part of the wider activity under the banner of Why Let Good Times Go Bad?
