Nyetimber hosts winemaking days for WSET and Plumpton College
Nyetimber wine has hosted its first educational days for students at Plumpton College and the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) with the aim of promoting careers in winemaking and viticulture.
According to trade body WineGB, around 5,000 people work in the wine production industry and this is expected to increase to 30,000 by 2040.
In May, students from WSET and the Viticulture, Oenology and Wine Business department at Plumpton agricultural college attended a three-day course at the Nyetimber estate. This follows a series of work experience opportunities offered by Nyetimber to Plumpton students.
The educational days included a tour of the estate’s vineyard and pressing centre, as well as a tasting of Nyetimber’s core range.
Richard Carter, chief executive of Nyetimber, said: “We hope by giving the students exposure to our activities they will gain a good understanding of how we operate [and] what it takes to consistently make our award-winning wine.”
