Berkshire Botanical launches Dandelion & Burdock Gin
Berkshire Botanical, the artisan spirits brand created by Johnny Neill, founder of Whitley Neill Gin and Mary-Le-Bone Gin, has launched a small-batch quintessentially British Dandelion & Burdock Gin and secured its first supermarket listing in Tesco.
Brought to market by Yattendon Distillery in West Berkshire, Berkshire Botanical Dandelion & Burdock Gin is copper pot distilled and then gently infused with delicious dandelion and burdock.
The first flavoured expression in the range, it features hints of vanilla, liquorice, honey and a little citrus and ginger spice. It is described as “pairing wonderfully well with lemonade or tonic water for a delightfully refreshing beverage”.
Like Berkshire Botanical’s Dry and Sloe Gins, as the first flavoured gin in the range, Dandelion & Burdock, takes its inspiration from the flora and fauna of Yattendon Estate’s land where both botanicals naturally thrive.
Berkshire Botanical Dry Gin and the new Dandelion & Burdock Gin are both 40.3% ABV with an RSP of £20 for a 50cl bottle, available from selected Tesco stores, from May 25 and The Drop Store.
Berkshire Botanical Dandelion & Burdock Gin is handcrafted in small batches in a copper still. ‘Harry’, the distillery’s handsome pot still resides in the stunning Royal Oak Public House in the heart of Yattendon village.
It is presented in a golden hued bottle finished with a label featuring a dashing badger character clad in country attire.
Johnny Neill, founder of the Berkshire Botanical spirits collection, said: “As people currently have more time to discover and experiment with different spirits at home, we’re delighted to be introducing our first flavoured gin expression and have it widely available alongside the Original Berkshire Botanical Dry Gin at Tesco and via The Drop Store.
"As a brand less than 12 months old, this is a very positive step for us, especially given the challenging current climate.”
“Our philosophy is to create enduring sustainable spirits and liqueurs and this is mirrored by the marketplace demand for them, and consumers’ continuing desire for new artisan, flavoured gins. As dandelion and burdock can be found thriving on Yattendon’s hedgerow banks we felt the time had come to introduce a rather unique and special gin celebrating these centuries-old, much-loved botanicals.
"We hope this ode to the pleasures that can be gleaned from the UK countryside will help to lift people’s spirits in the upcoming months.”
Hannah Melhuish, Local Sourcing Buying Manager at Tesco said: “We’re always on the hunt for exceptional products made by local suppliers and these two Berkshire Botanical gins tick all the boxes. The flavour profiles are fantastic, the Dry Gin with notes of juniper, citrus and Norway Spruce and the Dandelion & Burdock with hints of vanilla, liquorice, honey and a little citrus and ginger spice.
"We’re delighted to be the first to market, selling the gins in 76 stores across Berkshire and neighbouring counties, and hope our customers love them as much as we do.”
