Sherry Wine launches Wine Label Design Competition
Sherry Wine is launching a Wine Label Design Competition for its generic labels, aimed at “breathing new life” into its overall image.
The initiative, which is being launched via the global web platform for design services ‘Design Crowd’, offers an opportunity for new talent to show its creativity and come up with what will be a new image for Sherry and Manzanilla.
César Saldaña, director general, CRDO Jerez, said: “It’s been over ten years since we renewed the look of our generic promotional labels and a lot has happened since then. Jerez & Sanlucar de Barrameda may be the oldest DOs in Spain but we like to think they are some of the most modern – by embracing social media and keeping the Sherry brand and Sherry wines relevant in a competitive market.”
Saldaña continued: “Launching this competition is part of our renewed energy to promote Sherry, which is evolving with a new audience.”
The Sherry Wine Council said it is keen to revitalise the image of the unique Sherry and Manzanilla wines and it looking for new labels for the bottles used in all its generic promotional activities, which include the most important styles of wine in the region: Fino, Manzanilla, Amontillado, Palo Cortado, Oloroso, Pale Cream, Medium, Cream, Pedro Ximenez and Moscatel. Ten labels are therefore needed, one for each of the styles mentioned.
The competition is aimed at both professional and amateur designers, art students, or indeed anyone who wishes to participate. There is no restriction on subject matter, but provision should be made for the logos, which are included in the briefing. More information is available on the Sherry Wine website:
The competition will be judged by members of the communication department of the Sherry Council and professionals in various areas of design. The winning design will constitute the new image of the generic Sherry wines and the winner will be announced during the Harvest Festival of Jerez de la Frontera in the first fortnight of September.
The prize for the winner will be 1,000 Euros, a diploma and a selection of Sherries.
Presentation of the new bottlings will take place during International Sherry Week, which takes place from 7 to 13 November 2016.
