Chapel Down unveils bold expansion plans
English wine and beer producer Chapel Down is planting new vines in Essex, Kent and Sussex and building a brewery for its Curious beer range after securing £4.3 million in equity funding.
Former Scottish & Newcastle chief executive John Dunsmore will join the board to oversee the expansion. Dunsmore founded the Hothouse Club, which is making up £2.4 million of the investment.
Frazer Thompson, chief executive of Chapel Down Wines, said: “Just over a decade ago our industry and business was little more than a bit of a novelty. Today we are a prestigious, internationally recognised brand with world class credentials.
“We are about to start an exciting new phase in Chapel Down's development. We now have a terrific brand and some huge opportunties.
“This investment will allow us to continue to increase the supply for our award-winning brands to meet growing demand and further improve the quality and reach of both our wine and beer in the UK and internationally.”
Kent-based Chapel Down has picked up listings for its wines at the likes of Majestic, Morrison's, Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols and exports to countries across the flobe, from Canada to Vietnam.
