Ian Macleod buys Tamdhu
Ian Macleod Distillers has bought the Speyside distillery Tamdhu from the Edrington Group.
Macleod said it had plans to “significantly develop” sales of the Tamdhu single malt in the UK, but the production capacity of 4 million litres a year will also give it a vauable source of spirit for its Isle of Skye, Lang’s and King Robert II blends.
Macleod bought the Glengoyne distillery and single malt from Edrington in 2003.
“We are delighted to be acquiring a second distillery from them,” said managing director Leonard Russell, “safe in the knowledge that it has been maintained to a very high standard and comes with a reputation for producing exceptional quality single malt.
“I am pleased that we will be securing and creating new local employment during these uncertain economic times.”
Edrington chief executive Ian Curle added: “We know that the Tamdhu distillery and brand will be in good hands.
“The sale will de-complex our business, allowing us to focus on the growth of our five key brands – Famous Grouse, Macallan, Brugal, Cutty Sark and Highland Park.”
