MPs call for freeze in beer duty
A Tory MP has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament urging the Chancellor to scrap plans for an increase in beer duty.
Andrew Griffiths, vice chairman of the All-party Parliamentary Beer Group, is urging George Osborne to “listen to consumer and industry groups, including the British Beer & Pub Association, the Society of Independent Brewers Association and the Campaign for Real Ale”, all of whom oppose a duty increase.
The government is expected to increase most alcohol duty by two percentage points above inflation in the Budget on March 23.
The EDM had received support from 11 MPs on Monday afternoon.
