Macallan breaks auction record
A bottle of Macallan has broken the world record for a whisky sold at auction.
The bottle of Macallan 64 Year Old in a one-off Lalique decanter sold for US$460,000 (£288,000) at a charity auction at Sotheby’s in New York.
Proceeds go to a charity providing safe drinking water for people in developing countries.
In all, a world fundraising tour by the bottle since April has raised £605,000 – enough to help change the lives of more than 30,000 people.
David Cox for Macallan, said: “We have had a phenomenal response. We are absolutely thrilled with the result.”
