Three elegant wines from Alsace
JB Adam, Kaefferkopf 2005 Cuvée Traditionelle
Supplier: Alliance Wine
A Riesling/Gew urztraminer blend that will have Grand Cru status from this year's vintage. Riesling provides the backbone, freshness and acidity, while its blousier relative provides the body, fruit and spice. A nicely balanced number from a biodynamic producer with rose, peach and elderflower on the nose, just off -dry on the palate. RE
Domaine Edmond Rentz
Gew urztraminer Rotenberg 2005
Supplier: Portal, Dingwall & Norris
Floral and spicy on the nose with creaminess on the palate from grapes grown on iron-rich soils. Will age well for another seven or eight years, according to winemaker Patrick Rentz. RE
Bruno Sorg
Florimont Riesling 2003 Grand Cru
Supplier: Thorman Hunt
Plentiful lime, petrol and spice on the nose with a hint of cream. Still feels quite youthful on the palate, despite the age. RE
