Maisons Marques et Domaines UK (MMD) has announced the addition of Barr-Eden Estate to its portfolio, effective 28 September 2026.
Based in Australia’s Barossa and Eden Valleys, Barr-Eden Estate spans 130 acres across some of Australia’s highest vineyards, situated between 465 and 545 metres above sea level.
Best known for its high-altitude, cool-climate Shiraz and Rhône-style red blends, MMD said the estate’s elevation allows for a longer, slower growing season, leading to fruit that achieves optimal phenolic ripeness.
First owned by the Pöhner family from 1858, the estate was acquired by Bob McLean in 1997, with Pierre-Henri Morel becoming involved in the estate’s wine production in 2014 alongside Barossa grape grower Joel Mattschoss.
In 2016, Barr-Eden expanded its project to include more approachable wines from younger vines on the estate. In 2023, when Pierre-Henri Morel and his business partner, Michael Twelftree, became sole custodians, the Love Over Gold estate was also established.
Dedicated to showcasing the highest-quality wines the estate has to offer, the Love Over Gold label has since become known for the producer’s ultra-premium wines.
Richard Billett, MMD MD said: “We are very pleased to welcome Barr-Eden estate to the MMD UK portfolio and to introduce their finely crafted Rhone varietal wines with a unique, Eden Valley, terroir expression and personality to this market.
“A first involvement for MMD UK in the super-premium Australian sector, we are delighted also to partner with Pierre-Henri Morel as he looks to continue and enhance the legacy of this long-established property.”
Morel added: “at Barr-Eden Estate, love comes first. We’ve spent years waiting patiently for the right partner to look after our wines with the same care, passion and commitment, that we do.
“MMD UK has long been our ideal partner. From bringing an exceptional collection of wines from around the world, to working with some of the best people in the industry.”
