After forty years at the helm, Miles Jenner will be stepping down as head brewer at Harvey’s and moving into a new position as production director.

Retaining the role of joint managing director, Jenner is set to initially head the production function, supporting the next generation of brewers as they transition into senior leadership roles.

As part of these changes, Peter Yartlett has been appointed as the new head brewer, taking over from Jenner.

Yartlett first joined Harvey’s in 1995 while studying chemistry at Exeter University. He then completed a master’s degree in Brewing and Distilling.

Eventually returning to Harvey’s after seven years in the trade, Yartlett took up the position of third brewer before being promoted to second brewer in 2010.

Now, as he takes the reins as head brewer, Henry Kirk moves into the role of second brewer, coming from a position at Hand Brew Co. in Worthing.

Like Yartlett, Kirk has a long history with the brewer, having first undertaken a work placement at Harvey’s in 2012 before working at a series of other breweries, including Fuller’s and Partridge Green.

Finally, Cameron Elder has been appointed to the role of third brewer. An eighth-generation descendant of the brewery’s founder, Elder completed his master’s degree in Brewing and Distilling.

Since then, he has gained work experience at Belhaven, Timothy Taylor’s and Joseph Holt’s breweries.

On the changes, Jenner said: “Our aim was to ensure continuity, while encouraging innovation, and it is exciting to see this long-term objective come to fruition. I could not wish for a more capable or enthusiastic brewing team.”
