Master of Malt has reported its top selling product for August was a festive gin advent calendar.

The online retailer released its popular That Boutique-y Gin Company Advent Calendar before the end of the summer and, despite introducing it early for the festive season, it said the product has been “flying off the shelves”, while also picking up lots of mentions in the press.

Craft beer, gin and Japanese whisky were also top sellers throughout August, according to the retailer.

The company said: “It might have something to do with the weather but our beer sales went ballistic this summer. This August beer was up 8% on the previous month and a massive 31% up on the previous year. Leading the charge were Beavertown from London and Kona, all the way from sunny Hawaii.”

The online spirits specialist also confirmed the gin boom is yet to come to an end.

It said: “Our gin sales [for August] were up 23% on the previous month and 68% up on the previous year. Our customers still love their gin.”

The company also noted that Japanese whisky didn’t feature in its top 20 bestsellers for the same period in 2018. But for August 2019 Nikka from the Barrel and Hibiki Harmony were both in our top ten bestselling products overall.

It said: “It is an expensive category but rocketing sales of the better value Japanese whiskies, like these two, show the rising level of demand.”
