Tohu Wines is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the release of a limited edition wine.

Tohu, which is part of Kono, the food and beverage arm of Wakatu, is distributed in the UK by specialist importer Connoisseur Estates. The brand was launched in 1998 and it was the first Maori-owned and operated wine label in New Zealand and the world.

Over the last twenty years, we have created internationally acclaimed wines, crafting wine that encapsulates a place and time, and reflects the unique characteristics of our vineyards. The limited edition Methode Traditionelle Rewa Rose 2015 is being launched at a special launch event in New Zealand in October.

Connoisseur Estates is hoping to secure UK distribution for the wine later by the end of this year. 

Bruce Taylor, chief winemaker, said: “We wanted to create something really special to celebrate this significant anniversary. Our sparkling rose is crafted solely from Pinot Noir. It is an elegant yet complex wine with bright berry aromas and brioche notes.”

Kono is one of New Zealand’s largest premium food and beverage companies. The shareholders of this Maori-owned business all descend from the original four Maori tribes from the top of the South Island and their primary focus is the management and sustainable use of ancestral lands always guided by a set of traditional Maori values.

The winery and main vineyard are located in Marlborough’s Awatere Valley.
