Majestic is in talks which could see it buy Vagabond Wines, the London wine bar and retail business which applied to the High Court to enter administration earlier this month.

Vagabond was founded by Stephen Finch in 2009 and was a multiple industry award winner in its transformation from a single shop in Fulham, west London, to 11 sites across the city and one in Birmingham.

A Majestic spokesperson said: “Majestic can confirm that it is exploring a deal to purchase all or part of the Vagabond Wines business.

“Majestic cannot comment further on ongoing discussions but we are hopeful of securing a deal.

“Since our acquisition by Fortress Investment Group in 2019, we have invested heavily in our growth plan, opening 16 new shops, hiring many new colleagues, supplying thousands of premium hospitality businesses through our B2B division and training thousands of colleagues as one of the biggest wine educators in Europe.”

Vagabond has cited rising costs, Covid-related debt and the loss of a site at Heathrow Airport in January this year, caused by a change to the layout of security at Terminal 5, as reasons for its financial woes.

Finch’s directorship of Vagabond also ended in January.
