The Kopke Group has announced that it will be releasing two 2024 Vintage Ports: Kopke Vintage 2024 and Burmester Vintage 2024.

According to the group, both were created under the direction of master blender and port winemaker Carlos Alves, and represent the 2023/24 growing season.

Kopke continued that the warm year, moderated by cool nights and variable harvest conditions, allowed for precise and even grape ripening across the Douro.

The winter months were wet and mild, followed by a warm spring and hot summer, ending with a softer September, leading to a long and steady ripening period.

The producer reported that the harvest period began in late August, extending into September, depending on the varieties and parcels. The result was “excellent concentration and freshness”.

On the duo of ports being launched, Alves said: “2024 stands out for its balance and precision. The long growing season and the conditions during harvest allowed us to select each parcel at its optimum moment. The wines show exceptional colour, freshness and structure, with a natural harmony that reflects the character of the Douro.”

The Kopke Vintage 2024 has been created with 75% Vinha Velha and 25% Touriga Nacional and has an alcohol content of 20% abv.

The Burmester Vintage 2024 has the same alcohol level but is made with 45% Touriga Nacional, 40% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Roriz and 5% Alicante Bouschet.

Both liquids have been released to the UK market via Jeroboams and Vintage Wine & Port. The UK is among 60 countries in which the Kopke Group currently trades, with exports making up 40% of its total turnover.
