London-based fine wine merchant Flint Wines has been appointed the exclusive UK agent for Sonoma producer Kistler Vineyards, with the estate’s wines set to become available in the market from June.

The partnership will see Flint represent Kistler’s portfolio of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the UK, building on the Californian winery’s existing reputation among collectors and high-end restaurants.

Founded in 1978 by Steve Kistler and Mark Bixler, the Sonoma County estate has long been regarded as one of California’s benchmark producers of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Today, it is owned by Bill Price and winemaker Jason Kesner.

Leila Pearson, vice president of sales and marketing at Kistler, said the company was confident Flint would strengthen the estate’s presence in the market.

“We are thrilled to be joining Flint Wines in the UK market. This partnership is rooted in their strong dedication to building and representing a portfolio of producers with shared values. Pairing that with their team and the commitment to their accounts gives us confidence in our future in the UK,” she said.

Kistler has built its reputation on site-driven wines sourced from top vineyard sites across Sonoma County, including Carneros, Sonoma Valley, Russian River Valley and the Sonoma Coast. The estate is particularly known for meticulous vineyard management and low-yield farming designed to emphasise terroir expression.

A defining feature is the winery’s use of heritage California clone selections, notably a Chardonnay clone originally imported from Burgundy in the early 20th century. Over decades, this clone has been refined to produce low yields, small berries and naturally high acidity.

Winemaking at the estate also centres on native yeast fermentations and restrained use of French oak, with the aim of producing wines that reflect both vineyard character and long-standing grower relationships.

“Kistler is one of those hallowed, whispered California names, a must-try for any wine lover, and sought after the world over,” Beth Pearce MW, head of buying at Flint Wines, said. “Their work with heritage California clones and single vineyards will fascinate any wine geek, but the sheer generosity and enjoyment in the glass is what I love the most.”

To mark the launch of the partnership, Flint Wines will host a series of events in June with Kistler president and winemaker Jason Kesner.
