Fine wine and spirits merchant Jeroboams has announced the acquisition of fellow family-run business Hayward Bros Wines in a move that will significantly strengthen the business’s wholesale arm and expand its national footprint.

The deal, announced during Jeroboams’ 40th anniversary year, brings together two respected, service-led wine merchants and signals an ambitious new chapter of growth.

Under the agreement, Hayward Bros’ entire team will be fully integrated into the Jeroboams Group. The acquisition will also see more than 80 producers join Jeroboams’ portfolio, including Maison Jean Loron, Maison Jaffelin and Kopke Port, which will sit alongside the likes of Moss Wood, Achaval Ferrer and Hunter’s. This expansion forms part of a landmark year of growth for Jeroboams, which aims to lay the groundwork for future investment in independent fine wine distribution

Matt Tipping, CEO at Jeroboams, called the move “more than a joining of companies. It’s a coming together of families, friends, resources and shared values. It significantly expands our national capabilities, brings new producers into our portfolio and reinforces our position as the UK’s leading independent fine wine merchant. It’s also a moment of pride in our 40th year, as we invest in the future of independent, service-led fine wine distribution across the UK, providing the Jeroboams Group with a strong foundation for growth.”

For Robert Hayward, MD of Hayward Bros, the deal represents an evolution while preserving the company’s heritage.

He said: “This marks a new era for the Hayward Bros Wines team, our customers and suppliers. We are proud of what we have built over the years, and joining the Jeroboams family ensures that legacy continues.”

The acquisition reflects Jeroboams’ long-term investment strategy in the wholesale side of its business. With the addition of Hayward Bros’ national customer base, Jeroboams Trade is poised to serve a more diverse audience, offering an expanded range of wines to restaurants, bars, hotels and independent retailers across the UK.

By combining their portfolios and teams, Jeroboams and Hayward Bros also aim to strengthen their platform for producers looking for independent distribution in the UK.
