Ian Macleod Distillers, the Scotch spirits firm, has expanded its business model to include a private client business.
The company, which currently ranks as the 10th-largest Scotch whisky company globally, said it would be giving investors and enthusiasts direct access to some of Scotland’s best single casks, rare bottlings and distillery experiences.
Announced at the end of last week, Ian Macleod Distillers Private Clients will be led by William Ovens, who is currently head of global travel retail and private clients at Ian Macleod.
He will be joined by Stuart Hendry, who has worked at the distiller for more than two decades and currently holds the role of private client director.
Ahead of the new expansion, Ian Macleod said its private clients business would give collectors access to rare and exclusive liquids.
This includes rare sherry casks from Tamdhu dating back to the 1960s, the last remaining Rosebank casks distilled before the distillery’s closure in 1993 and Glengoyne casks from the 1970s onwards.
It added that, thanks to its unique position in the market, it can offer whiskies from across the Lowlands, Highlands, Speyside and Islay, covering all four of Scotland’s principal whisky-producing regions.
Hendry, via a post on Linkedin, commented: “I look forward to helping clients build collections featuring some of Scotland’s most remarkable spirits, representing a proudly independent family-owned company with a rich heritage in Scotch whisky.”
Meanwhile, Ovens added: “Thrilled to have established Ian Macleod Distillers’ Private Clients business, alongside Stuart Hendry and members of the broader IMD team.
“We are privileged to have access to some of the finest and rarest casks and bottles going back to the 1960s from our multi-award-winning Rosebank, Tamdhu and Glengoyne Distilleries. Also excited to be able to offer new make casks from our newest distillery, Laggan Bay on Islay.”
